The school

A school built around its students.

Aspect Vern Barnett School is an autism-specific school in Forestville, Sydney. AV Projects delivered meeting and multipurpose room AV for three meeting rooms and an events space, with Greenpoint Construction as head contractor and DesignInc as project designer. The systems support staff meetings, training, and presentations, bringing conferencing, microphones, and shared content together through customised room controls.

Events space

Choose the session.
The room follows.

The events space brought together two 75-inch displays, conferencing equipment, ceiling microphones, and handheld microphones. The key to making that equipment useful was giving staff a simple way to choose how the room should work.

We customised the Zoom Rooms controller with controls for the room’s different operating modes. Staff could select public address for a presentation in the room, combine public address with conferencing, or use ceiling microphones to capture a wider discussion. Handheld microphone options supported a presenter-led session.

Rather than asking users to manage the individual audio and video components, the customised controls brought the relevant room functions into the Zoom Rooms interface. That made the choice about the session they wanted to run: a local presentation, a conference or a combination of the two.

Content sharing

Bring your laptop.
Share with the room or the meeting.

A BYO laptop connection allowed staff and visiting presenters to bring their own content. The system could capture that content for the room’s displays, or share it into an online meeting as well.

For a training session, that meant presenting material to the people in the room. For a discussion involving remote participants, the same content could become part of the meeting alongside the room’s microphones and conferencing system.

Installation and handover

Built around the way the space is used.

AV Projects delivered the cabling, equipment installation, and room-system programming. The work brought display switching, microphone options, and audio processing together behind the customised controls.

The smaller meeting rooms used compact conferencing systems, while the events space offered the range of modes needed for larger sessions. Across the installation, the focus was practical: give each space the tools it needed, and give staff a clear way to use them.
